The Masque is held at Crown Plaza Crystal City hotel in Arlington, VA. This is the fifth year we have hosted the Masque at this location.
Where should I stay?
We highly recommend that you stay at the Crown Plaza Crystal City hotel. That being said, staying at the hotel is by no means a requirement. Information about the room block is here.
When is the event held?
The Masque itself is held on Saturday night, January 4th 2025, starting at 7 pm and lasting until 1am.
How do I get there?
Getting to the hotel is easy via Washington DC’s Metro rail system.
Air: Reagan National airport (DCA) is located one mile from the hotel and is easily accessible via Metro. From the airport, take the Metro’s Blue Line (towards Largo Town Center) one stop to the Crystal City stop. From there, it is a six minute walk to the hotel. NEW! Washington Dulles International airport (IAD) is now accessible by rail! From the airport, take Metro’s Silver Line (toward Ballston-MU) to East Falls Church. Change trains to the Orange Line (towards New Carrollton) to Rosslyn. Change trains to the Blue Line (toward Franconia-Springfield) and get off at the Crystal City stop. From there, it is a six minute walk to the hotel.
Train: Amtrak trains stop at DC’s Union Station and the Metro goes directly into the train station. Take Metro’s Red Line (towards Medical Center) to Metro Center. Change trains to the Blue Line (toward Franconia-Springfield) and get off at the Crystal City stop. From there, it is a six minute walk to the hotel.
What about parking?
The hotel has a parking garage located under the hotel. The cost is $40 per night.
What should I wear?
The Masque does have a dress code. We require attendees to wear a mask and attire appropriate to the event. Now what do we mean by that? I’m so glad you asked. Your mask can be a simple domino or an elaborate full face covering or anything in between. It can even be painted on. To the other point we highly recommend you check out photos of previous years to get an idea of the dress code. For other ideas on costumes go here.
Ok, but what about Covid?
You must show official proof of up to date COVID-19 vaccination matching the name on your ID. This is a 100% vaccinated event and you will not be admitted if you are not up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines and are able to show official proof of your vaccine. Please refer to this site for information on staying up to date on COVID–19 vaccines and boosters. Safety protocols subject to change based on federal, state, local, and CDC recommendations up until day of event. Ticket holders will be contacted via email should safety protocols be revised.
Can I bring my kids?
This event is strictly 21 and up. IDs will be checked at check-in and anyone under 21 will not be allowed admittance for any reason.
What if I haven’t read the Kushiel’s Legacy books?
That is totally fine! We have several attendees who haven’t read the books. They enjoy coming for the community and party atmosphere. Some of them have eventually read the books so the nuance of the event makes more sense to them, but others haven’t. We will gladly explain anything that is confusing to you and welcome you into the group anyway.
You said community, how can I talk to attendees before the masque?
We have a private Facebook group for attendees of the masque past and present. If you have never been to the Masque before, an invite will be sent to you once you purchase your ticket.
Is there anything else that is going on that weekend?
Some members of the group do get together for an informal “pre-party” on Friday night every year in their hotel rooms.
Also, many attendees chose to go as a group to Spa World on Saturday before the Masque.
These fun events are not an official part of the Longest Night Midwinter Masque. For more information on these events, go to the group Facebook page.
